KAREN: Born in Tasmania,
Australia but my grandfather was
born in Bolton, Lancashire.
After training and working in Tasmania both in hospitality and as a
teacher, Karen moved to England to live and work in London in 1998.
Initially she worked as a primary school teacher in mainstream schools
but felt that cooking could be used very effectively within the
curriculum.
Karen wanted to share her passion and flair for creating delicious,
attractive and healthy food with children in an easy and accessible
way. She believes that hands on experiences can empower
children with a life-skill for the future and workshops
consolidate classroom learning, leaving a lasting impression.
The
'Cooking with Children' Workshops have been running in London
schools since October

ABIGAIL: Born in Sussex but in 2000 she moved to Bristol to study a degree in Human
Geography at The University of the West of England. Here she
developed an interest in food politics.
During a long stay in the South of Spain in 2004, Abigail became
increasingly aware of intensive agriculture and it’s environmental
and social implications leading to her becoming concerned about the
unsustainability of the global food system.
In 2006 Abigail obtained a Masters degree at City University in Food
Policy where she specialised in the concept of ‘food poverty’.
Food poverty can be defined as the
inability to obtain healthy affordable food. Abigail believes that
education is vital in the attempt to reduce food poverty in the UK.
Abigail has a strong interest in nutrition, agriculture, food
miles and food ethics. She is a keen recycler and incorporates
this into her workshops.
